“Sentenced to Treatment” for Grand Larceny? (NYS)?
Question by Ossicle: “Sentenced to treatment” for grand larceny? (NYS)?
Hello,
A friend is going to go before a judge on a charge of 3rd degree grand larceny (Class D). There is some hope that the DA will be merciful and recommend “treatment” for him for some period of time (e.g., a year or two) — I believe in some sort of halfway house or something — then after a certain time his case would be reviewed and the indictment could be dropped, or the felony reduced to a misdemeanor.
I only think of treatment in terms of drug offenders, does anyone know what this might mean/entail in terms of a property crime like grand larceny? And/or more formally what a program like this is called? I’d be interested in learning the possible places to which he could be sent.
Thanks.
Oss
Thanks.
