Open Question: Looking for a Decent and Inexpensive Addiction Treatment Center in My Area? and Actual Info. About Them?
Open Question: Looking for a decent and inexpensive addiction treatment center in my area? And actual info. about them?
Have a very good friend that I’m worried about. Long story short, he has been using narcotics(opiates) for the past 10 years and is finally trying to get his life straight but is having trouble doing it on his own. He is currently on methadone and has been for past 3-4 years but not through a clinic or center. Needless to say, it’s much more expensive and risky. He also has some mental issues that probably should be talked about with a professional.
So basically…looking for something that meets these requirements if possible…
-outpatient (just got job, doesn’t want to lose it)
-close to him (33701 area code in FL, will be taking bus)
-inexpensive… maybe some type of assistance program (no insurance) how much????
-most likely he will need methadone maintenance program or slow detox of some kind (I have no clue)
-which is better.. a private program or some type of state thing?
Since he finally decided to help himself, I’ve been doing research and looking up all the basics obviously (google clinic in area, etc) but their seems to be quite a few but hard to tell if they’re private or state, what they cost, what all they include or some of them where exactly located, etc. Would help if someone knew from experience, otherwise were pretty much on same page far as info. Think would benefit from a full evaluation as well but necessary, as could probably get that at a free clinic or something. I’ve heard some about suboxin and subutex or whatever but not sure if they’re any better and what not. Also heard about “Access to Recovery” vouchers that you can get, which I guess are like coupons for mental/health issues. No idea how one gets them though.
Main ones I’ve seen thus far, but no info really about the differences..
“Westcare Gulfcoast FL A turning point.”
“Operation PAR” – Doesn’t seem very close to area?
Metro treatment center-
Ugh, so confusing. I’ve even went to reference sites for methadone/addiction what not and they’re not much help either. Think their would be one main listing with links, details and all that. Especially considering how bad this issue has become over recent years, mainly in FL too. Hopefully I’ve covered everything I need to, without confusing everyone. Thanks in advance.
Resolved Question: Pain Pill, Opiate, Heroin Addicts: Has Methadone worked for you?
I would just like to hear from addicts or close family/friends of addicts who have been on methadone maintenance treatment for their addiction. Did MMT work for you? A brief description of your experience and the outcome. Observations from family/friends of the addict before, during, and after treatment. If you are still on the treatment, how are you responding to it? The pros and cons for you?
Resolved Question: Questions about recovering from heroin addiction?
I quit a pretty intense heroin habit last november. I’ve been clean about 4 months, my habit had gotten to the point where heroin was the entire focus of my life. Getting it, waiting to get it,, getting money to buy it, and being high.
To leave my addiction behind I signed up at a methadone clinic. I have some questions about methadone that I haven’t been able to answer in the four months of taking it.
I was, at the start of treatment, about 95 pounds. I’ve gained weight but I’m not sure how much. I’m roughly around 110 I think.
I am on 90mg of methadone a day.
I have skipped only one day of dosing.
And I can no longer use dope because I don’t feel it.
I heard a lot of people end up doing coke during their treatment as a way to get high, what kind of reactions could combining the two cause?
What about benadryl?
Is it normal to have sweats, headaches and stomach issues regularly from methadone so far into maintenance treatment?
What can I do to stop these things if they are caused by the methadone?
How fast is it safe to go down with minimal withdrawel?
Thanks for any help you can give
Resolved Question: Is it wrong to have no govt forcing of others to pay for an individual’s medical problems?
So unless you can get an insurance to cover your ailment or you can pay the bills, you don’t get your insulin or methadone or appendectomy….unless the hospital or doctor or such decides to cover you & get paid in the future or is charitable.
But no law to force treatment without payment.
Yes, but insurance can be VOLUNTARY. Obama care is not.
U kno dawn for once…the age old q is if a lifetime smoke has cancer, 80 years old, should we spend the money to treat him even tho’ odds are he’ll die in months.
But who pays whitefla…?
Yea Dawn…a horse that needs to be beaten….should find a forum
Methadone: Where We Are Part 1 – A slightly dated but informative video about Methadone Treatment. This 2 part series was edited for time & content. It covers everything from “How methadone works in the body” to “The Stigma Associated By Patients”. It includes stories from those who are in MMT, counselors, and doctors. The problems faced by MMT today is almost identical to the problems of yesterday which tells me there has been very little change despite overwhelming evidence to support the use MMT through the years.
