Do You Think This Country Would Be Better if We Legalized Drugs and Prostitution?

Question by Christopher N: Do you think this country would be better if we legalized drugs and prostitution?
What I’m asking is do you think we should be wasting billions of dollars on the war on drugs when we could legalize them and make them taxible commodities? Same for prostitution. If the government made prostitution a legal business, like it used to be in the old days, wouldn’t that help cut down on STDs?

Why the hell not. The Democrats want to legalize criminal activity with amnesty so what the hell?

yes and yes….i do think we should legalize both pot (not “hard” drugs, cocaine, heroin, etc.) and prostitution…

we should do like they do in Europe where the prostitutes have to get tested every week and be licensed….both should be controlled by the government…it could be a massive profit for them…

there are several operating brothels, but as a country founded on christian morals our nations constitution is opposed to it.

and drug laws would be too hard to regulate, some drugs are just downright destructive and can never be used safely without risk of addiction, but marijuana would be a great legal commodity, any psychoactives would be too risky.

Yes on both counts, if drugs were produced by pharmaceutical companies they’d be as safe as possible and available for about the same price. This would cut out drug dealers and a lot of the crime associated with them. There would have to be a limit on age 18 or 21 would seem reasonable.
The woman or men who are prostitutes would be in buildings where they would be significantly safer. If the same levels of testing as porn actors was instituted this could cut down on the spread of STD infections.
This with the taxation would make it a benefit. Unfortunately the government doesn’t see it that way they see ‘bad people’ getting their own way.

yes it would be, because legalization would mean we can monitor and regulate the industries. It would also deny organized crime a primary source of their funding.
This would also reduce the prison population by at least half, which means we would have colosal savings from criminal justice system that we would use t fund rehab and education to disuade people from using illicit drugs.

Also it would help with poverty because the war on drugs is in point of fact a war on the poor. 1 in 4 blacks in america has been in prison, why? Because they are poor, and sending them to prison exhacerbates their condition because when rel;eased their record indicates they were an imate, reducing their chance of finding a job to almost zero. Criminalization has done ZERO to reduce crime, all it has done is added over a million people into our prison system.

Abolutely not. Are you kidding? Do you honestly think that this country would be better off if people were legally able to take drugs? Just because the government could make money off of these immoral acts doesn’t mean that the country would be better of if they were legalized.

  • Cheech:

No and No… We have a problem with stupidity and laziness already (just look in Washington DC). Drugs are proven unsafe and hazardous. Legalizing mind altering and habit altering substances is not a viable route to preventing the drug problem. Consider the alcohol related deaths due to addiction and drunk driving. Do we really want to add Driving Under the Influence of Pot into the criminal code?

Prostitution increases the potentiality of spreading of diseases, overpopulation, and divorce. At least my wife would divorce me if I got caught with a prostitute, legal or not.
