Can I Beat Depression on My Own Terms ?
Question by Allways Minus: can i beat depression on my own terms ?
Im mentally tough, ive dealt with lots of stress over 15 years. Lots of it is my fault, as i dont believe in caving in too stronger people.
But now my wife has started to harass me. Fighting at home is not what im built for. First time in my life i have been severely depressed. I cant concentrate, i cant work, i cant sleep, i cry a lot in private, im ripped apart that my wife of 14 years may leave me.
My psychiatrist prescribed cipralex – but as a practice i never take drugs. I think i shud do this. Plesae tell me if you agree.
1 – Start concentrating on work, make money
2 – More time with kids
3 – play the violin
4 – Get back to gym
5 – half a bottle of vodka a week with good friends
6 – Find a girl to hump everyday
7 – read books, edit my home videos, watch movies ( whenever i have time )
Its possible, is it not ? I can fight depression, can i not. Or do i have a chemical dopamine imbalance which can only be rectified by medicine ?
Edit – Ive tried with my wife for 7 months. Shes using sex as a weapon. I believe if i can get sex outside, i will leave her in peace to think me over . Im not a MCP

“Find a girl to hump everyday” your wife should definitely leave you. How about taking the tablets (your doctor didnt go to med school for no reason, and knows what he’s talking about), go to a counsellor, and stop being a jerk.
Those will make you distracted, but it won’t fix the larger problem. Especially not drinking.
fiding “a girl to hump everyday” isnt going to make things better. it will make it worse. Neither is drinking. You can become an alcoholic. Myabe you should start concentrating on your work and family more. You can fight depression by everytime you feel down, why not think about you kids and family and highlights in your life. Spend more time with your kids. take them to the park. Offer to do the dishes some nights. Treat your wife out to dinner. She could be having problems as well and the fighting doesnt make it better. Sit down and actually talk to her about things. Sounds like communication is a huge problem that needs to be talked over instead of fighting.
Depression can be mild, moderate or severe, as well as temporary, recurring or chronic. Some depressions can only be relieved by antidepressants, but all do respond positively to holistic approaches. If you are serious about treating your depression yourself (which I tend to disbelieve because of your approach), here are the true “home treatments:”
Forget #1, 4, 5 & 6 on your list. Keep # 2, 3 (assuming you already play), 7
Reasons given below:
1) Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.
2) Avoid caffeine, stimulants, alcohol (a proven depressant) and processed foods.
3) Get plenty of OUTDOOR exercise and fresh air. Sunshine actually provides a form of Vitamin D that can ONLY be obtained from natural sunlight and that is extremely effective in counter-acting depression.
4) Take time to participate in activities that you enjoy every day.
5) Avoid known causes of stress.
maybe if you could somehow find the starting point or the source of what may have started your depression and change what caused it. kind of like clear your past or whatever. if you can do that then you could possibly eliminate the problem at hand. this isn’t a professional answer.
and if i had to choose from your list above i’d definitely choose the more time with kids. and maybe even take some time off from work and y’all could go somewhere together: family trip. to take your mind off of the stress that has build up around you.
now that i’m writing this i realize that your ‘source’ is possibly the stress…i mean after 15 years…
do with my answer what you will.
