For School, I Am Doing a Project on Supportive Devices for People With Disabilities. Can You Help?

Question by shershadow13: For school, I am doing a project on Supportive Devices for people with disabilities. Can you help?
It is necessary for me to include some type of game for my fellow students to participate in. I thought that Pictionary would be fun, but I need some really good advice on how to go about this. Does any have any good ideas? Does anyone know of any good websites that are full of information about supportive devices for disabled people? I would appreciate any help. Thank You!

There’s plenty of websites. But the term you need to use is “assistive technology.”

Also, try “Freedom Scientific” (a major producer of assistive technoloc) and “RERC” (Rehabilitation Engineering Research Centers”–a network of about 2 dozen recearch centers around the country).

And the following:

afb.org (American Foundation for the Blind) and
aph.org (American Printing House for the Blind) and
“National Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped”

I’m not sure if you mean adaptive technology, like Jaws and Zoom Text which read aloud for the blind and visually impaired or if you mean supportive technology like handle bars in bath tubs or eating tensils with larger non slip grips on them so they won’t slip.

They have large type cards for Poker and card games like Cribbage and Rumoli.

WI technology is good for seniors and those who have some kind of mobility injury to help them retrain their muscles.

Pictionary isn’t good if you’re vi or blind.

Lots of card games with braille printed on the cards. There used to be a game Simon where you had to match the electronic pattern.

Connect 4 is good.Trivial Pursuit or any of the Trivia games .

I hope this is what you’re looking for.

Try to find some sites geared towards Occupational Therapy and google assistive devices from there. You should be able to find a ton of info there. If you still need help, contact your local hospital and ask for the outpatient physical therapy or occupational therapy dept. and ask to talk to one of the therapists there, they can probably point you in the right direction.

My daughter and I are both disabled and have lot of devices to help us. Starting with wheel chairs. My daughters is custom made to fit her needs. I have a regular one. Also have a shower chair in the tub. I have a raised toilet seat so it’s easier to get up. I have a device to pick stuff up I drop.
Also a device to help put on socks and a extra long shoe horn. My daughter has hospital bed because of her back problems. There are lots of stuff out there now didn’t used to be. Check medical supply web sites also.
